A quick trip to Sacramento.

We went up to Sacramento for the weekend (because we're close enough to do that now!!) to celebrate my sisters 21st birthday with her.  The kids and I stayed through the week and had a lot of fun playing, shopping and working on a few DIY projects for our house.  Here's a few highlights from the week.

 We brought our portable DVD player with the lorax to dinner and it was the best idea ever!  The boys were in a trance the whole time which meant we could actually enjoy our meal.

Downtown

One of the best things about living in a small town surrounded by miles of corn fields and grape vines is the produce!!  After hearing about it a lot we finally headed downtown to the farmers market and had some of the best produce I've ever tasted!!!  It was a nice break from unpacking and decorating our house and we really enjoyed the company of our new friends the Silvesters.

We will definitely be going there as often as possible.

Lake House

We spent the first week in August at my parents lake house in northern california with family.  It is always non-stop fun for the kids when we're there and this time their cousins came up for a few days to join us so it was extra fun having them there.  Boston already talks about wanting Kennedy and Cameron to come to grandma's lake house with us again.  We also got to celebrate Boston's fourth birthday while we were there and my mom and sisters organized a really fun Lorax themed party.  It was so nice to not have to plan anything since we were in the middle of moving.

Santa Cruz

We took a day trip to Santa cruz while we were in Sacramento so the boys could play at the beach ... and by boys I mainly mean Mark.  It was a chilly day but we still had a lot of fun.  The boys ran all over the place exploring and building sand castles and I did my favorite thing ... rested!  It was glorious!!

 

 

 

Lemoore Naval Air Station

In August Mark and I took a quick trip out to Lemoore to see the base and look for a house.  While we were there we got on the waiting list for base housing (4-6 month wait) and took a tour of them to see what they were like.  They were pretty nice but I was really disapointed by the size of the backyards.  They were just a 10 foot by 10 foot square patch of grass.  I guess they do kind of make up for it by having nice parks and community centers in every neighborhood but still.  The only other thing that bothered me was that the base seemed like a ghost town.  We were there for two days and I didn't see one child playing outside or even adults outside for that matter.  It was about 110 degrees the weekend we were there so that might have had something to do with it.  These are pictures of the base.  

 About 5 miles fromt he residential side of the base is the operations side of the base where Mark will be working.  That's where they have all the hangers and flight line and that's also where we found this little beauty:  the chaplains office.  It was a run-down portable building with a make-shift steeple added to the top in an attempt to make it more credible?!  I told Mark he should sell snow cones out of it.
